Did you know that over 80% of BC healthcare workers who participated in the Violence in Healthcare Worker Survey experienced violence at work?
Over 2500 healthcare workers took part in the study (conducted earlier this year), which measured tolerance, reporting, experience, contributors, and prevention efforts to capture the experiences and perceptions of healthcare workers across BC.
The survey results will be used to update the Provincial Violence Prevention Steering Committee on priority areas, and the contributors to workplace violence. "Much valuable current information was gathered by the 2500 health care workers who participated in the survey,” says Margaret Dhillon, Executive Councillor for Health and Safety with the British Columbia Nurses Union. “This information will be extremely useful in demonstrating the extent of violence, contributors to the problem as well as giving direction for future initiatives."
Results will also be used to inform future projects and the development of violence prevention resources. Carole Taylor, Corporate Director of Workplace Health and Safety in Interior Health notes: “The report is comprehensive… it highlights where the work is yet to be done and provides direction for the Provincial Violence Prevention Steering Committee”
