Mental Health and Organizational Development

The healthcare environment is one of the most challenging in which to work and can be both physically and emotionally demanding. Across Canada, healthcare workers exhibit high rates of work-related illness and injury. In recent years mental health claims for anxiety and depression have increased significantly among healthcare workers.

OHSAH works with healthcare stakeholders to support and facilitate strategic organizational change. This preventative approach towards health and productivity addresses the psychosocial aspects of work such as leadership, job stress, work control, interpersonal relationships at work, organizational culture and communication, and healthy lifestyles.

We work to address the underlying issues contributing to mental health-related presenteeism and absenteeism as well as workplace injuries by:

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating programs focused on preventing and responding to psychological as well as physical risks;
  • Providing resources and expertise for assessing the work environment for risks to mental health, and consultation on how to address specific situations if necessary.
