This animated, interactive, web-based course is designed to provide employees, supervisors, and employers with an understanding of WHMIS core elements that apply to all workplaces where hazardous materials are used.
What will participants learn?
- WHMIS goals
- Individual responsibilities with respect to hazardous products in the workplace
- Hazard classes and their symbols
- WHMIS labels, what they mean, and how to make Workplace labels
- Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and how to use them
*Participants' understanding of the information will be assessed both throughout the module and via a comprehensive, graded final quiz.
Who needs this type of education?
Any individual who works with and/or near hazardous or controlled products needs to be provided with WHMIS education, as outlined in the Workers’ Compensation Board of BC OHS Regulation 296/97 Section 5.3 to 5.21. In healthcare this includes a variety of occupational groups, such as maintenance staff, x-ray and medical technicians, laboratory workers, housekeepers, and laundry staff.
